Improving efficiency and safety at PepsiCo: a comprehensive YMS implementation

With this implementation, PepsiCo experienced a significant improvement in the efficiency, safety, and visibility of its logistics operations, reducing turnaround time from 2 hours to just 15 minutes.

When PepsiCo was looking for solutions to optimize its logistics operation, we faced critical challenges. Lack of visibility into the location of containers and the safety of container movement were key concerns.

YMS implementation

The lack of real-time information created confusion and delays, affecting task allocation and increasing the risk of errors and accidents. In addition, operational safety was compromised due to the lack of a secure system for container movement.

To address these issues, we implemented a comprehensive Yard Management System (YMS) that combined advanced technology with safety practices. We installed RFID antennas on the mulitas and provided tablets to the operators, enabling fast and accurate identification of containers and secure control over their movement.

The integration of the tablets provided operators with an intuitive interface to manage mule movements and access critical information on operational safety and best practices.

YMS not only improved PepsiCo's operational efficiency, but also ensured personnel safety and inventory integrity. Real-time visibility and secure control over container movement allowed us to optimize logistics operations and improve overall business performance.

We equipped each container with active RFID tags to accurately track its location, installed RFID antennas at the inbound and outbound points of the yard to automatically record movements, and finally, integrated this solution with the Warehouse Management System (WMS) for centralized information management.

Containers can now be tracked and handled more efficiently, reducing waiting times and minimizing the risk of accidents. Integration with the WMS also improved the planning and execution of loading and unloading activities, thus optimizing operational processes.
